Kettle Type Heat Exchanger
A Kettle type heat exchangers is a variant of the shell and tube heat exchanger. It is typically used as a reboiler in distillation columns or as a cooler for condensing vapors and sub-cooling liquids. The “kettle” refers to the large cylindrical shell that collects the boiling or condensing fluid in a sump or “kettle section.”
Unlike conventional shell and tube exchangers, kettle designs can handle vapor-liquid disengagement effectively due to their horizontal configuration and large vapor space.
